Let me introduce myself

My name is Mary DeWinkeleer, and I am an English teacher and journalism adviser at Londonderry High School in Londonderry, New Hampshire. I graduated with a B.A. in literature from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1995, and then taught English in Hungary for a year.

After spending a year teaching high school students, I realized I wanted to be a high school English teacher, so I attended Northern Arizona University and got my teaching certification in 1999. I taught in Flagstaff, Arizona, for four years, and then my now-husband and I moved to Alaska, where I taught English at a high school in Anchorage. 

After a year in Alaska, we decided to move back East, so I got a job in Londonderry, New Hampshire, where I’ve been teaching journalism and English since 2004. Since I was a literature major in college, I basically knew nothing about being a journalism teacher and adviser when I got hired, so I spent the first five years learning what I could on my own. Then I started the JNED program at Kent State University, which has helped me become a better journalism teacher and adviser.
